Dancing with the Brooksby Stars in Peabody, MA August 2, 2012 By Ryan Mooney, Globe Correspondent
Residents and staff put on quite a show at Brooksby Village's Dancing with the Brooksby Stars on Thursday afternoon. The event, now in its fourth year, is used as a way to support the Benevolent Care Fund, a fund set up to provide support to residents who outlive their financial resources. Last year it raised $2,500. "I think it was a success," said Lisa Kirshon, the show's producer and a fitness specialist at Brooksby Village. "And the way I know that is because I'm looking at the audience, and I see their smiles, I see them moving, and so yes it was a great success." This year's theme was "Dancing Through the Decades." Dancers performed hit numbers from all over the timeline of last century, Waltzing to the original 1910 version of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," jitterbugging to Al Martino's 1963 "Living a Lie," and getting down with "Disco Fever". Next year, Lisa Kirshon hopes to take the event to Erickson Living's other Massachusetts location, Linden Ponds in Hingham. "We hope it continues for years to come, keeping it edgy and fun and different every year," Lisa Kirshon said. "Perhaps next year we'll go on the road with this show."
